SWISS HILL HOUSE

The Client for this project approached BMA looking for imaginative new ways to make use of what was previously an underused and inefficient collection of discrete catchall spaces off of the kitchen in their second home in the scenic Upper Delaware River Valley. BMA developed a series of schematic options to re-integrate these spaces into the flow of the existing house with minimal disturbance to the existing layout. Our first step was to open and connect, removing the partitions which separated the kitchen from the adjacent mud areas. This simple stroke opened up a world of possibilities to improve circulation, efficiency, and experience within the space. With all initial program needs met (laundry, bath, pantry, seasonal storage), the possibility of a breakfast nook emerged as an alternative to extending what was already a sufficient kitchen. The introduction of this space was transformative for the Client, and turned out to be the Project's greatest takeaway,
