This addition reimagines a historic 3,280 SF farmhouse as a multigenerational retreat capable of graciously hosting an expanding family. The existing home was comprised of three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a den, and a failing kit-sunroom that was working overtime as a dining space. The owners found themselves feeling increasingly constrained when hosting friends and family.
The addition introduces a two-bedroom wing with a new half-bath, but its primary architectural gesture is the creation of a grand new dining room that serves as the heart of the expanded home.
Bridging the old and new structures while preserving the character of the original farmhouse, the new dining area establishes a generous and enduring gathering space filled with natural light. Defined by a hip roof form and fully glazed, the room is anchored by a large bluestone fireplace that rises into a cupola above—balancing warmth, scale, and daylight in equal measure. The addition also includes 2 ample guest bedrooms, and a half-bathroom to service increased company. A rebuilt screened porch, now properly integrated into the architecture, supports indoor-outdoor connection with the property's definitive sprawling gardens.
